Death as a Playground
As the new year begins
And many people are evaluating and deciding on goals for the upcoming year
There is also a time of letting go of what was
There are many ways to approach and be in the depths of loss, grieving and death
Loss and the accompanying grief is one of the deepest processes a human can go through
There are little losses - anywhere someone is still hanging on and it's time to let go
There are big losses - those experiences that devastate and break a heart wide open
Grief is an incredibly deep, sensitive, very beautiful, and essential part of life
Within grief, there are a whole range of emotions that can be felt
Such as despair, misery, depression, bitterness, resentment, and rage
Within that is also the potential experiences of ecstasy, bliss, hopefulness, joy, and a re-birthing
For some people, this is a freeing, relieving, spacious new beginning
For others, it's a time of re-evaluation, decisions, and re-arranging
For many, it's getting lost and overwhelmed in the black hole of emotions and thoughts
Grief and loss are unpredictable
It's a meeting of the void inside of us
Each person's journey is unique
Each death a person experiences, whether big or small, is also distinct
Whether it's grieving the death of a loved one
The end of a relationship or job
The the end of our own life as we know it
The curiosity of Death itself
Or something else
Rather than letting it overtake us
What if we had a space to play and explore and excavate the deeper knowing and lessons that this transition point is here to show us?
Not to make light or fun of the experience of death
In society we've kept our death rituals on the surface
We often get stuck in the black hole of our emotions and thoughts
Many of us are left wondering
"Why me?"
"What's next?"
"What now?"
"How do I live life fully now that I've experienced death?"
We often keep it all to ourselves
Sometimes we seek help and support
Only to find no one is able to hold us in the depths of it all
Often having to turn around and hold the other person who is supposed to be holding us
In grieving, we've left out the primal, raw depths of truly feeling everything
In and through our bodies
In a full allowing and opening
With curiosity and wonderment
And fully acknowledging and honoring all that is showing up
A dropping in, exploring, and full releasing
The Death of our life as we knew it
Of all that we were
All that we thought we had to be
And into the inquiry and embodiment of
"What now?""
So that all that we are now being nudged into Being
Germinates and breaks ground in the fertile soil of the destruction
And grows into the new phase of the life of our choosing
Death as a Playground is an invitation
To be in the depths of the experience of Death
However it is showing up for you in this moment
With a lens of wonder, curiosity, and full allowing of all that is showing up
In a space of community
To mourn
To cry
To shake and shed
To breath or not
To celebrate and honor
To play and explore
To notice we are not alone
And to remember the life that is created from the death and destruction of what was
What if death got to be this playground upon which we create and live?
We can look through the lens at destruction and feel a sense of loss and powerlessness
Or we can dive deep and shift the lens
Seeing the art and beauty in the destruction
That in clearing out the old
We can plant the seeds and germinate the new
A new moment
A new breath
A new day
A new week
A new month
A new year
As relationships end
We grieve the loss
We evaluate what we want to keep
We decide what our next relationship will be
And ultimately who we are choosing to BE in that
As we say goodbye to loved ones as they pass from this human form
We remember the love
We evaluate the regrets
We explore who we are in having had this person in our life
We choose who we are being moving forward with them no longer in our physical space
We often are trained that grieving and loss is a private matter
And to some degree it is
For each of our experiences are our own unique journey
There is another level though
Where we grieve in community
When we are held in a space of non-judgement for all that we are experiencing
When we sit in curiosity with all that is showing up for us
When we allow ourselves to fully unleash the rawness we are feeling
This is an invitation for you
To drop into Death
Into the grief, loss, pain, hurt, sadness
Into the destruction
Into the black hole of emotions
Into the exploration of what's on the other side of it all
Into the inquiries and the impulses and celebrations
Into the choosing of who you want and are being called into next
Not from being in your head
But from being in your body

A choosing, deciding, calling, embodying
Of what’s next
And what living life fully is for you
