Optical Illusions and Perspectives
This week I was reminded of optical illusions, particularly that of MC Escher, through the game called Monument Valley. It's a puzzle journey and it made me reconsider perspectives.
I often found myself having to think outside of the norm with how things worked, like when moving a piece that you wouldn't normally be able to stand on, but now can because of the way the illusion works.
Playing with the various ways things moved until a way to move forward fell into place, often with me thinking "I don't know exactly what I did but it worked!" and celebrating that!
Being in the flow and play and pleasure of the game rather than the outcome and the hows.
Then I got to thinking…
- Where in my life can I change perspectives from the norm?
- Where can there be an unexpected idea or solution that wouldn't have come about if I stuck with the way I normally see it?
- What if our perspectives are just illusions… ways of viewing things, when really there are infinite possibilities?
So outside of the game, I've been playing with and exploring perspectives: shapes in the clouds, the multiple uses of a water bottle other than for drinking water, looking at something higher while being at the height of a toddler, how I take notes and use notes, identities…
So I'm curious…
- Where are you playing with exploring different perspectives in your life?
- Where are you making it harder for yourself?
- What new perspectives are you exploring?
- What are you trying to figure out the how of it all when all you really need to do is change the way you are looking at it?
- What path/perspective turns you on and lights you up inside?
